Sampson Zheng Selected To First Team For Second Straight Season

BERKELEY – Three California men’s golfers earned Pac-12 postseason honors Thursday, as voted on by the conference’s head coaches. Sampson Zheng was selected to the All-Pac-12 First Team for the second consecutive season while freshmen Ethan Fang – an All-Pac-12 Second Team and All-Freshman Team selection – and Eric Lee – an All-Freshman Team honorable mention – received accolades as well.
It’s the first time since 2018-19 that three or more Golden Bears have received conference postseason honors in the same season. The full 2023-24 Pac-12 men’s golf postseason awards list can be viewed on
Zheng is the first Golden Bear to earn consecutive All-Pac-12 First Team selections since current PGA standout Collin Morikawa, who was a four-time honoree from 2015-19. Zheng has been on a tear since the start of March, placing in the top 10 of four straight tournaments, including a tie for sixth at last week’s Pac-12 Championship. Zheng is 11-under-par across 25 rounds played in eight stroke-play events this season.
Fang has played in all 11 of Cal’s stroke-play events during his rookie campaign, averaging 71.35 strokes per round. He’s finished inside the top 10 four times in seven tournaments this spring, including a tie for third at the Pac-12 Championship. The freshman also was runner-up at the Pauma Valley Invitational in March when he shot 70-70-65 to finish 8-under-par.
Lee won his collegiate debut at the Marquette Intercollegiate in September and has been a steady presence for the Golden Bears in 10 total tournaments this season. He’s placed inside the top 15 five times, most recently at the Western Intercollegiate (14th) and the Pac-12 Championship (13th).
Cal will compete as the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Rancho Santa Fe Regional at The Farms Golf Club on May 13-15.
