USC Women’s Golf Advances to NCAA Championship Semifinal

CARLSBAD, Calif. – No. 7 USC women’s golf advanced to its second-straight final four, where it will play Stanford after besting Clemson 3-1-1 on Tuesday, May 21 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. 

The Trojans had a dominant outing, as all three points for USC were clinched before the final two holes on the course. Senior Brianna Navarrosa continued to be the best player on the course, as she finished with a 7&5 victory over her counterpart in the No. 4 slot. 

Junior Amari Avery also joined her in a quick win, as they both clinched it on Hole No. 4. Avery won her match 6 &5, as she won eight holes to her opponents three. 

Freshman Bailey Shoemaker made her NCAA match play debut and was the deciding player, as she hit a long putt on Hole No. 7 to clinch the match for the Trojans. Shoemaker sent the Trojans into the semifinals with a 3&2 win over her opponent. 

Junior Xin (Cindy) Kou was the lone person to drop a match, as sophomore Catherine Park ended up tied as she was unable to finish before Shoemaker clinched. Kou lost 4 &3.

The victory is USC’s sixth NCAA match play win in program history, improving its record to 6-6.

The Women of Troy will face No. 1 seeded Stanford starting at 2:05 p.m. PT.
