Swanson Recipient of NCAA Elite 90 Award – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

CARLSBAD, Calif. — Clemson junior Andrew Swanson received the NCAA’s Elite 90 Award for Men’s Golf on Thursday morning at the Omni Lacoste Golf Club in Carlsbad, California, the site of the 2024 NCAA National Tournament.   The tournament begins on Friday and Swanson received the honor just prior to his practice round.

The Elite 90 Award is presented each year  to the student-athlete with the highest  career GPA at each sports NCAA National Championship tournament.

Swanson holds a career GPA of 4.0 for his three years at Clemson.  

The native of Bluffton, SC  is the second Clemson golfer to win the honor since it started in 2010.   Stephen Behr, Jr won the Elite 90 Award for men’s golf in 2016.   Clemson is the first school to have two different men’s golf student-athletes win the award.

Swanson, a mathematical science major, is in his second year as a starter on the Clemson team.  He has a 72.50 stroke average this year with two top 10 finishes, six rounds in the 60s and nine under-par rounds.

The native of Bluffton, SC was named to the Ping All-District team in 2023 when he led the team in stroke average.  He was also named Academic All-ACC and a Coaches Association Academic Scholar in 2023.     Those awards for 2024 are yet to be announced.

Swanson will begin play in the NCAA National Tournament on Friday morning.
