Gators on Tour: Week 21


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ten former Gators continued their seasons on the PGA, Korn Ferry and PGA Tour Champions circuits. 

PGA Tour Golfers

Florida had four golfers competed at the Charles Schwab Challenge with Alejandro Tosti (T-17) finishing the best followed by Billy Horschel (T-24), Camillo Villegas (Cut) and Tyson Alexander (Cut). 

Tosti shined in his 15th start of the season earning his second top 20 of the year. The PGA Tour rookie had the third best SG: Approach to Green (6.659) while maintaining the driving distance he has become know for (sixth in longest drive, and 27th in SG: Off the Tee). 

 

Horschel went one under in Fort Worth to finish 24th. His weekend was headlined by great play around the green ranking first in sand saves (6/6) and scrambling (25/30). Horschel also made a field best 57 pars. 

Korn Ferry Golfers

T.J. Vogel (T-58), Fred Biondi (T-69) and Ricky Castillo (Cut) represented the Gators at the Visit Knoxville Open this weekend. 

PGA Tour Champions Golfers

Gator Greats Chris DiMarco (T-6) Brian Gay (T-11) and Scott Dunlap (T-21) all competed in the second PGA Tour Champions Major of the season. 

DiMarco notched his best finish of the season, going 1 under to finish sixth in Brent Harbor Michigan. DiMarco shot a field low six bogeys along with 17 birdies and an eagle. DiMarco moved up 22 spots in the Schwab Cup rankings to No. 38. 

Gay recorded his eighth top 20 finish of the season after an 8 under weekend. Gay shot three rounds under par which included 21 birdies tied for fourth best. 

What’s Next

The PGA Tour takes a trip above the border for the RBC Canadian Open where Tyson Alexander and Camillo Villegas will be the former gators in the field. 

Ricky Castillo and T.J. Vogel will both tee off on the Korn Ferry Tour for the UNC Health Championship presented by STITCH. 

The PGA Tour Champions will be in Des Moines Iowa for the Principal Charity Classic. Gator Greats Chris DiMarco Brian Gay, Scott Dunlap and Mark Calcavecchia will be in the field. 

Florida’s Mens Golf team wrapped up their season on Monday after barely missing the match play cut in the national championship. The Gators finished the season ranked 11th thanks to their play in Carlsbad.
