BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech men’s golf head coach Brian Sharp announced the addition of Gareth Steyn, a Georgia State transfer, Friday. Steyn, the 2021-22 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year, will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Georgia State: Second on the team in stroke average at 72.48, 13th-lowest in school history … In eight events, he had one victory, two Top-10 finishes, and three Top-25 finishes … Named Sun Belt Golfer of the Week after his one-stroke victory at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational, in which he fired a final round 65 (7-under). His victory earned him an exemption into the PGA TOUR’s 2024 Puerto Rico Open … Shot 71-73 (E) in the 2024 Puerto Rico Open including a stretch of three straight birdies in Round 2 … Opened the season with a 66 in the second round of the Mirabel Maui Jim Intercollegiate, before matching that score in the second round of the USF Invitational … Tied for fifth at the Wexford Intercollegiate, helping Georgia State to the team title, the Panthers first since the 2020-01 season. Had a hole-in-one in Round 1 … Named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Third Team.
Augusta: Led the team with a 73.73 stroke average … Had a low-round 68 at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate … Carded a 69 in the third round of the Notre Dame tournament … Played in 10 tournaments and 30 rounds for Augusta … Best finish was a tie for third at the Southland Conference Championship … Named Southland Conference Freshman of the Year … Named to Southland Conference Second Team.
