STANFORD, Calif. — For the first time, Stanford women’s golf will be represented by a pair of golfers in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics. Rose Zhang has qualified for the United States while Albane Valenzuela will represent Switzerland.
The Olympic Games selection for Zhang is just the latest in what has been a banner year for the former Cardinal. In the last 12 months, she has won her second individual NCAA national championship, two LPGA tour titles, and now is an Olympic qualifier for the first time. Her 71.00 scoring average on the tour is 14th best which has helped her land nine top-10 finishes since last June.
Returning to the Olympics for the third time, Valenzuela will represent Switzerland after one of the most consistent starts to a year in her career. She has a pair of top-10 finishes in 2024, including a runner-up finish at the Honda LPGA Thailand, and most recently finished ninth at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in early June. She becomes the first three-time Olympian in Stanford women’s golf history.
The women’s Olympic Golf Ranking features 60 qualifiers representing 33 different countries. The United States of America and the Republic of Korea are the only countries with more than two qualifiers.#OlympicGolf pic.twitter.com/qUmgZrCpHR
