Former All-Big East Golfer Transfers From Seton Hall To Cal
BERKELEY – Wenliang Xie, a two-time All-Big East Conference selection, has signed to play for the California men’s golf program. Xie, a Burbank native, spent the previous five seasons at Seton Hall and joins the Golden Bears as a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining in 2024-25.
Xie has played in more than 40 tournaments since the start of his collegiate career in 2019-20 and owns a 72.82 career stroke average. He has 15 career top-10 finishes and eight top-five finishes, including a win at the 2019 Hartford Hawks Invitational, just his second collegiate tournament played. Xie was at his best for the Pirates last season as he averaged career-low 71.81 strokes per round across 12 tournaments, posted four top-five finishes and had 15 sub-par rounds on the way to earning All-Big East First-Team and Big East Championship All-Tournament Team honors.
Xie collected his first All-Big East accolade – a second-team nod – as a sophomore in 2021-22 and added PING All-Northeast Region honors after recording a 72.48 scoring average and six top-10 finishes. He did not compete in tournament action for Seton Hall during the 2020-21 season. The former Pirate twice finished in the top 10 at the Big East Championship – sixth in 2022 and third in 2024 – and played in a pair of NCAA Regionals (2022, 2024).
Xie is one of five newcomers on the Cal men’s golf roster entering the 2024-25 season, joining a quartet of incoming freshmen in Zhengfei (Richard) Han, Kai Hirayama, Matthew Miyamoto and Ziqin (Eric) Zhou.
He attended Village Christian High School in Sun Valley prior to attending and playing for Seton Hall.
