Buchanan Earns CSC Academic All-America Recognition

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini men’s golfer Jackson Buchanan was named to the 2023-24 Academic All-America Men’s At-Large Third Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Wednesday (July 17).

The recognition marks the first CSC Academic All-America selection for Buchanan and the second for an Illini men’s golfer in the program’s history following Adrien Dumont de Chassart’s second team nod in 2022-23. This season, Buchanan was also recognized as an Academic All-Big Ten performer for the second straight year and was named as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.

Buchanan, who is pursuing his bachelor’s degree in operations management from the Gies College of Business at Illinois, completed his junior season in 2023-24. He was tabbed as a third team GCAA All-American and Big Ten Men’s Golfer of the Year, and was also a unanimous first team All-Big Ten selection this season. He competed in all 13 of the team’s stroke play events and closed the season with the Illini’s second-best stroke average of 70.92. He finished as runner-up at the Big Ten Championship after claiming medalist honors at a team-leading two events – the Purdue Fall Invitational and the Duck Invitational – during the regular season. Overall, Buchanan posted a team-most eight top-10 finishes. He tied for the team lead with 12 sub-70 rounds on the year and ranked second on the squad with 20 rounds of par or better. Buchanan closed as the Illini’s top finisher in four events this year, tied for the most on the team.

Buchanan is the second Illini to earn CSC Academic All-America honors in 2023-24, joining Illini men’s basketball’s Marcus Domask, who was tabbed as an Academic All-America first-team selection in April.  Overall, he is the 113th CSC Academic All-American in Illinois Athletics history.
