Trio of Tennessee Golf Representatives Set to Compete in 124th U.S. Amateur

CHASKA, Minn. – A few Tennessee men’s golf representatives are set to compete in the 124th U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine National Golf Club and Chaska Town Course.

Incoming freshman Jackson Herrington, VFL Jake Hall and assistant coach Payne Denman are in the field for the event.

This year’s U.S. Amateur runs Aug. 12-18, with the first two days featuring 18 holes of stroke play apiece before moving into the match play portion of the event.

Hazeltine, which is serving as this year’s championship venue, is one of only two courses in America to have hosted a U.S. Open, PGA Championship, U.S. Senior Open, U.S. Women’s Open and Ryder Cup. The rich history of the course alone highlights the toughness that this year’s U.S. Amateur will present.

Along with its prominence, Hazeltine provides a challenge with firm greens, penalizing rough and requires precision in the fairways.

Tennessee golfers have had past success in the U.S. Amateur. Oliver Goss finished runner-up in 2013, while Eric Rebmann finished runner-up in 1987.
