Brock Snyder Heads to U.S. Amateur

Rising sophomore Brock Snyder of the University of Missouri men’s golf program is set for the national stage this week, competing at the U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

Snyder, who will be joined by Mizzou assistant coach Sean Carlon as his caddy, earned his spot at one of 18 qualifying sites over the summer. Snyder carded a two-under 70 at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club in Morton Minnesota on July 31 to place second overall in the 31-man field, collecting an automatic bid to the championship this week.

A native of Ames, Iowa, Snyder looks to follow the lead of former Tiger John Kelly from the last time the championship was played at Hazeltine. Kelly finished as runner-up at the 2006 U.S. Amateur, earning a spot at the 2007 U.S. Open and Masters Tournament.

During his freshman campaign, Snyder posted a 72.5 stroke average. He saved his best for last as he carded a four-under 66 during the second round of the NCAA Regional, setting the program’s freshman record and third-best score by any Mizzou player during the regional round.

Stroke play for the U.S. Amateur begins on Monday with Snyder teeing off at 1:47 p.m.
