SAMMAMISH, Wash. – With 36 holes complete at the Sahalee Players Championship, Duke sits in eighth place at 8-over, 584. Three Blue Devils – Bryan Kim, Ethan Evans, Luke Sample – all sit at 2-over, 146, to pace Duke’s lineup. John Peters, playing individually, finished the first day of competition at 7-over, 151.
HOW IT HAPPENED: ROUND ONE
- As a team, Duke shot a 9-over, 297, in the first round.
- Bryan Kim was the low Blue Devil in the first round, carding a 1-over, 73. The sophomore made the turn at 3-over following three bogeys in his first nine holes, but played the second half of the round bogey-free while adding birdies on the par-4 15th and the 218-yard, par-3, 17th.
- Ethan Evans and Luke Sample both finished at 2-over, 74, for their respective opening 18 holes.
- Evans rolled in five total birdies, including back-to-back on his opening two holes, to help offset seven dropped shots throughout the round. Sample bounced back from an early 4-over start through the first five holes of his round, including a closing birdie on the par-5 18th.
- Daniel Choi played his first nine holes at even-par, courtesy of three birdies, three pars and three bogeys, but played the first three holes of the back-nine at 4-over to eventually sign for a 4-over, 76.
- Kelly Chinn carded a 7-over, 79, in the first round and John Peters’ first round, playing individually, finished at 3-over, 75.
HOW IT HAPPENED: ROUND TWO
- The Blue Devils finished under-par in the second round, shooting a 1-under, 287.
- Daniel Choi also secured an under-par showing, firing a 1-under, 71. The junior made one birdie, on the par-5 sixth, and went bogey-free on his other 17 holes of the round, rolling in pars on all other holes.
- A trio of Duke players – Ethan Evans, Luke Sample and Kelly Chinn – shot an even-par, 72, in the second round of the day.
- Evans, after starting with a bogey on No. 1, immediately bounced back with an eagle on the par-5 second and took advantage of the other front-nine par-5, with a birdie on No. 6, to make the turn at 2-under. The junior reached as low as 3-under, following a birdie on No. 10, but three consecutive bogeys across holes No. 15-17 dropped Evans back to even-par.
