SAMMAMISH, Wash. – The Arizona men’s golf team used a final round score of 290 (+2) to move up one spot and finish third at the Sahalee Player Championship to open the 2024-25 season. Arizona’s 54-hole score of 870 was 6-over par, just two shots behind second place.
Last year, Arizona opened the season with a second place finish at the Folds of Honor Collegiate.
The Wildcats were led by Tiger Christensen, who finished tied for fourth at 2-under par for the tournament after a 2-under par round of 70 on Sunday. It is the fourth Top 5 finished in Christensen’s career and his first since winning the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegaite on March 19, 2024.
Griffin Rhoads, competing as an individual, finished tied for 19th overall after a 76 in his final round gave him a total score of 218 (+2). It marks the second Top 20 finish of Rhoads career, with the other coming in his first collegiate appearance on April 13, 2022 at the Western Intercollegiate.
Zach Pollo, a junior from Rocklin, Calif., finished tied for 23rd after a 2-over par 74 in his Sunday round left him at 3-over par for the tournament and giving him his 11th Top 25 finish for the junior from Rocklin, Calif.
Filip Jakubcik was right behind Pollo, shooting a even par 72 today, finishing tied for 29th in the individual standings at 4-over par.
Johnny Walker shot 3-over in his final round to put him at 5-over for the tournament and tied for 34th. Tianyi Xiong shot a 74 today after an eagle on the par-5, 18th hole to end his tournament on a good note.
Looking ahead, the Cats will be back in Washington for the Husky Invitational on Sept. 23-24 at Aldarra Golf Club.
