Arizona State men’s golf is on the road again this weekend (Sept. 20-22) as they compete in the Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club — North Course (par 70/7,310 yards) hosted by the University of Illinois.

Arizona State will be joined by No. 16 Alabama, Baylor, No. 10 Florida, No. 3 Florida State, No. 11 Georgia Tech, No.9 Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern, No. 5 North Carolina, No. 20 Oklahoma State, No. 23 Stanford, No. 8 Texas, No. 19 Texas A&M, and No. 15 Texas Tech at the tournament.
LINEUP/TEE TIME
ASU will start playing at 8:45 with Nicholas Prieto teeing off, followed by Peer Wernicke (8:54), Connor Williams (9:03), Preston Summerhays (9:12) and Josele Ballester (9:21). ASU is paired with Illinois and Texas Tech.

ASU won the team title in 2009 while Niklas Lemke won the first individual title in 2006 with a 1-over 211.
COURSE HISTORY
Now in its 18th season, the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational welcomes the nation’s top teams to the famed Olympia Fields Country Club. The club is home to several premier events, having played host to the U.S. Amateur (2015), two U.S. Opens (1928, 2003), two PGA Championships (1925, 1961), a U.S. Senior Open (1997), plus five Western Opens (1920, 1927, 1933, 1968, 1971) and the 2020 BMW Championship.
LAST TIME AT OLYMPIA FIELDS
Last year’s tournament was left unfinished after a weather delay canceled the final round. After the 36 holes, the Sun Devils were tied for fifth while Josele Ballester was tied for eighth at 2-under.
SAHALEE RECAP
At the Sahalee Invitational Sept. 7-8, ASU shot 7-under 857 (282-284-291) to secure the team title, topping Florida by 11 strokes, who shot 4-over 868 (300-283-285). Leading the charge were the top-10 WAGR ranked seniors, as Josele Ballester — the 2024 U.S. Amateur champion — had a 3-under 213 (69-72-72) as did Preston Summerhays (71-68-74), and both tied for second. It marked the ninth top-five finish in Ballester’s collegiate career.
