No. 4 Gamecocks Start Windy City Collegiate Classic Monday – University of South Carolina Athletics

WILMETTE, Ill. – No. 4 South Carolina is back in action on Monday morning in the Midwest at the Windy City Collegiate Classic. It marks the team’s third tournament of the fall after a win at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate (Sept. 9-11) and a runner-up finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship (Sept. 20-22).

Carolina is led yet again this week by its senior All-American duo of Hannah Darling and Louise Rydqvist. They rank first and second, respectively, in the SEC in scoring average thru two events. Darling has been on a tear with a win and a runner-up finish individually in the first two events. The Midlothian, Scotland, native is a combined 26-under with 31 birdies in 108 holes played so far this season.

Rydqvist was runner-up medalist to Darling by a shot at the ANNIKA after shooting 203 (-13) in the season opener. She had a top-20 finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship. Darling’s scoring average through two events is 67.67 while Rydqvist’s is right behind her at 68.83.

Sophomore Maylis Lamoure has also had a nice start to the year with a pair of top-20 finishes in the team’s first two events. Her scoring average of 70.17 is seventh in the SEC.

Fellow French sophomore Vairana Heck joins Darling, Rydqvist and Lamoure in the Gamecocks’ starting five this week. Heck, who has started every tournament for Carolina since stepping on campus last fall, is seeking her first top-20 finish of the young 2024-25 season this week. Graduate Sophia Burnett will be the fifth player this week with junior Mia Sandtorv Lussand competing as an individual. It’ll be Burnett’s lineup debut this season.

It’s another strong field this week with 10 teams ranked in the top-25 of the WGCA Preseason Coaches Poll.
