Lu, Smith Tied For Fourth; UW Tied For Third After Day One At Molly


SEASIDE, Calif. – Led by sophomores Mads Smith and Vivian Lu, the Washington women’s golf team finished the first day of the Molly Intercollegiate Invitational in a tie for third place.
 
Smith and Lu are both tied for fourth place at 3-under par through the first 36 holes at Bayonet Golf Club. The third and final round of the tournament gets underway Tuesday morning.
 
The Huskies finished the first of the two rounds in first place, with a 3-under team score of 285, two strokes ahead of second-place Stanford at the time.
 
Smith’s first-round scorecard included six birdies and an eagle, alongside a pair of bogies, good for a 5-under 67. Lu posted a 3-under 69 in the first round, with four birdies and an eagle to go with three bogies.
 
In the second round, Smith finished with a 2-over 74 while Lu carded an even 72, leaving them both at 3-under for the tournament, three strokes back of three players who finished the day at 6-under.
 
In five total rounds here in the early portion of the 2024-25 season. Lu has been even or under par in all five.
 
Only six golfers in the field of 65 finished the day under par.
 
Washington’s next-lowest scorer was Kennedy Knox, at 5-over overall. She posted rounds of 73 and 76 Monday.
