East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s men’s golf team posted its best round of the tournament in the final round on Monday and completed play in the Windon Memorial Classic, hosted by Northwestern and played at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill.
The 16-team field completed the second round on Monday morning after it was called due to darkness on Sunday and then immediately played the third round.
The Spartans shot a 9-over par 293 and finished in 16th place at 51-over par 903 (307-303-293).
Arizona fired a 12-under par 842 (279-284-279) and won the tournament, with Marquette in second place at 7-under par 852, Northwestern in third at 2-under par 852, Kansas was fourth (4-over par 858) and USF rounded out the top-five teams (6-over par 860).
Freshman Juan Velasquez was the top finisher for the Spartans, tying for 59th place at 13-over par 226 (76-77-73), closing with a 2-over par 73 in the third round.
Sophomore Lorenzo Pinili had the team’s best round of the day with an even-par 71 and tied for 59th place at 13-over par 226 (76-79-71).
Junior Caleb Bond finished in a tie for 73rd place at 16-over par 229 (73-79-77), closing with a 6-over par 77 on Monday.
Freshman Julian Menser tied for 83rd place at 19-over par 232 (86-74-72) and sophomore Lucas Acevedo finished in 85th place at 20-over par 233 (82-73-78).
Michigan State is back on the course on Sunday, Oct. 6 and Monday, Oct. 7, playing in the Fighting Irish Classic at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
