Fouillet, Liu Both Finish Top 7 As Bears Shoot 9-Under
SEASIDE – Last year, the California women’s golf team made a habit of ending tournaments strong.
After a slow start to this week’s 2024 Molly Invitational, the Golden Bears did it again, shooting a 9-under-par 279 in Tuesday’s final round at Bayonet Golf Course to finish in second place.
It was the lowest-scoring final round out of the 11-team field – besting first-place Stanford’s 8-under – and 10 strokes better than the Bears’ previous best round of the young season. Cal shot 5-over 869 for the tournament, 11 shots clear of third-place Washington.
“It’s always great to see a team score under par and to see that we can have multiple players go under par at the same time. 9-under is one to be celebrated for sure,” Cal head coach Sofie Aagaard said. “We saw our putts roll in, we placed shots really well on the greens to create opportunities, and we kept the ball well in play off the tee. That’s really exciting and I think it builds momentum.”
Sophomore Constance Fouillet (71-73-67 | 211) earned her first top-three individual finish and junior Adora Liu (76-71-67 | 214) placed seventh. Both Bears started their day with a bogey before going on a flawless six-birdie stretch the rest of the way. They each carded the second 5-under round of their careers, just one stroke shy of Cal’s all-time 18-hole record.
“It all came together for Coco and Adora today. Both of them are great athletes who respond really well to the competitive environment,” Aagaard said. “They’re doing a great job of not getting too detailed while still being strategic and playing smart. They have great ball striking and execution and have seen some improvement in their putting which was really fun to see.”
Joining Fouillet and Liu in the top 20 was senior Kaylyn Noh (78-72-70 | 220), who posted a 2-under 70 for her second straight par or better round to end the Molly. Senior Jieming Yang (76-73-75 | 224) ended in 26th place after a 3-over 75 final round. Yang’s 8-over 224 overall was good for her best score in nearly two years.
Freshman Marie-Agnes Fischer (76-76-77 | 229) led Cal’s individual competitors at 5-over 77 on the day and 13-over 229 overall.
Cal will have more than two weeks off…
