Melgrati Named Big 12 Women’s Golfer of the Month for September

DALLAS – The Big 12 Conference announced the first Big 12 Golfer of the Month award on Thursday and Arizona senior Carolina Melgrati was the recipient on the women’s side after getting off to a hot start through the first two tournaments of the year.

Melgrati posted a scoring average of 69.67 over the first six rounds of the season, including five of six rounds at or under par. The native of Milan, Italy began the year with a runner-up finish at the Folds of Honor Collegiate at 4-under par and followed that up with a tie for fifth finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship at 10-under par.

As a team, Arizona won the Folds of Honor Collegiate and finished fourth at the Mason Rudolph Championship. A total of 165 golfers have competed in those two events and Melgrati defeated 160 of them.

The award only takes into account tournaments that were completed in the months of August and September, so the recent Windy City Collegiate that wrapped up on Oct. 1 was not included in this nomination.

The Wildcats are back in action at the St. Andrews Links Collegiate in Scotland on Oct. 14-16, with the tournament being televised on Golf Channel.
