CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia junior Ben James has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golfer of the Month for September.
James strung together a pair of top 10 finishes last month combining for 17-under for his six rounds. The Milford, Connecticut, native began his 2024-25 campaign at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio, where he tied for third with a 5-under 202, headlined by a final-round 66. With his top-five finish, James led the Cavaliers to their first team title of the season as UVA was the only team to finish under par for the event.
James continued his strong play at the Valero Texas Collegiate at TPC San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas, as he claimed medalist honors following a one-hole playoff. The junior finished the three rounds at 12-under par (69-66-66) and edged Auburn’s Joshiah Gilbert in the playoff with a birdie on the first hole. With the individual victory, James earned an automatic exemption into the PGA Tour’s 2025 Valero Open (April 3–6).
