University of Missouri women’s golf opened play at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational Monday, finishing the first day with four Tigers in the top 15.
Junior Melanie Walker posted a total of five-under on the day to finish tied for first individually. She posted a two-under 70 in the first round and followed it up with a three-under 69 to finish, her best round on the season. The day was highlighted by her combined six birdies and only one bogey on the front-nine.
Junior Jade Zamora started strong with a two-under 70 in the first 18, and posted a one-over 73 to finish the day at one-under in eighth place. Ffion Tynan finished the day at one-over in 12th after improving her score by five strokes in the second 18 to post a two-under 70. Addie Dobson also finished the day at one-over in 12th after posting seven birdies over the 36 holes.
As a team, the Tigers are third of 13 schools at +5 with Kansas leading after the first day at -12.
Day two tees off Tuesday at 8 a.m. with the Tigers teeing off the first hole.
