Virginia Golf | Virginia Sits in Fourth After Day 1 at Hamptons Intercollegiate

EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. – The No. 3 Virginia men’s golf team is currently in fourth place after day one action in the Hamptons Intercollegiate at The Maidstone Club. The second round was suspended due to darkness and will be completed Tuesday morning (Oct. 8) before beginning the third and final round.

Three of Virginia’s six competing golfers were able to play all 36 holes on Monday, while Paul Chang (one hole to play), Ben James (three holes to play) and Sam O’Hara (four holes to play) had their second rounds halted. Only 16 players in the 65-man field were able to complete both rounds. The tournament went through a lightning delay in the early morning.

Chang is the top Cavalier after day one action and is tied for eighth overall after playing 1-under par in the 35 holes he completed. Chang fired an even-par 72 in the first round and is 1-under with only the par-4 ninth hole remaining in round two. Chang had a blistering four-hole stretch in his second round beginning on the 13th hole that included two birdies and two eagles. He was one of 11 competitors to card a score of par or better in first round action.

Bryan Lee (67), Deven Patel (68) and Josh Duangmanee (69) all were in the red for round two. Duangmanee had two eagles in a three-hole stretch on the back nine of his second round. The Cavaliers led all teams with four eagles on Monday. James rebounded after a round one score of 77, his first round above par this fall, and is currently without a bogey through the first 15 holes of his second round that includes five birdies.

Play is set to resume at 8:10 a.m. on Tuesday and all players will continue in the same groups for the third and final round immediately following the conclusion of round two.
