Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah – site of the PGA Tour’s new Black Desert Championship – was designed by Tom Weiskopf and Phil Smith and opened in 2023. Black Desert was the last course designed by Tom Weiskopf before his death in 2022.
Built in a lava flow, the layout has quickly climbed the rankings and is No. 1 in Utah on Golfweek’s Best list of public-access courses, No. 26 among all resort courses in the U.S. and No. 81 among all modern courses in the country.
Black Desert will play to a par of 71 at 7,371 for the PGA Tour event. No. 13, normally a par 5 for resort play, will play as a par 4 for the tournament, reducing the normal total par of 72.
