Arizona Wins St Andrews Links Collegiate Over Northwestern


ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – In the medal match play championship, the Arizona Women’s golf team defeated Northwestern by a score of 4.5 to 1.5 at the Old Course at St. Andrews. It is the second win of the season for the Wildcats under first year head coach Giovana Maymon
 
The format for the day was each of the six players in the lineup would play all 18 holes against an opponent from Northwestern. The golfer that had the best stroke play score over the 18 holes would win the match and a point for their team.

The standout round of the day was Charlotte Back’s 66, which ties her lowest round of the season, as she carded seven birdies and just one bogey on the day to win her match by four strokes against the stroke play champion, Ashley Yun.

Nena Wongthanavimok had the largest margin of victory for the Wildcats, posting a 73 on her way to winning by five strokes against Dianna Lee.

 

Lilas Pinthier also collected a point for Arizona, as her round of 72 was good enough to win her match against Hsin Tai Lin by two shots. 

The other three matches all finished tied, which game both teams a half point per match. 

Maria Cabanillas posted a 73 to match Elise Lee, while Carolina Melgrati and Northwestern’s Jiayi Wang both tallied 71’s. The final match of the day was Arizona Julia Misemer against Lauryn Nguyen and both golfers finished with a score of 71. 

This tournament marked the conclusion of the fall portion of the schedule for Arizona. Next up on the schedule is the Therese Hession Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Estates in California from Feb. 2-4, 2025.
