Murphy Finishes Ninth As UW Wraps Up Southwestern Invitational

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Washington men’s golf team wrapped up play at the Southwestern Invitational on Wednesday, holding serve in 10th position with a one-over 285.

It was the low round of the week for the Huskies, who concluded the tournament at 18 shots over par.

“The guys battled hard again today and while we hoped to perform better in this tournament it was a step forward for us,” head coach Alan Murray said.

For the second day running, the play of true freshman Jack Murphy highlighted the day for the Dawgs. The Irish international fired five birdies with a single bogey during the round, posting a career-best 67 to finish ninth at two-under.

“Jack played sensational and to be so competitive in a field this strong is something that should give him huge confidence and self-belief,” Murray said. “His four-under round today was one of the most impressive rounds I have seen from a college player.”

Drew Warford’s even-par 71 was the second-best score of the day for the Huskies, while Amilkar Bhana bounced back from back-to-back 75s with a one-over 72. Warford and Bhana finished the week tied for 48th and 44th, respectively.

Jake Foley wrapped up the tournament with a four-over 75, tying for 61st, and Finn Koelle struggled through a five-over round, tying for 40th.

UW returns to action next week, heading to the Big Island of Hawaii to compete in the Amer Ari at the Mauna Lani North Course.
