PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – USC women’s golf utilized a two-under-par back nine as it moved from fourth place, after the front nine, into a tie for first, as the Trojans finished day one two-under par (282) at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge on Sunday, Feb. 2 at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
The Women of Troy finished the first round in a tie for first out of 16 teams, alongside No. 3 South Carolina at two-under par. Headlining the first day for USC was senior Xin (Cindy) Kou, as she opened up her spring season with her second round in the 60s, where she carded a 68 (-3) and tied for third in the field. Kou had a bogeyless round and provided three birdies during the tournament’s first round.
Freshman Jasmine Koo and Junior Catherine Park ended the first round at one-under par and are tied for eighth. Successful back nines spurred both players, as Koo was one-under par and Park was two-under par on the backside.
The final counting score belongs to sophomore Bailey Shoemaker, with freshman Kylie Chong sharing the same score. Both players carded a 74 (+3) on the day, as Shoemaker had a 37 (+2) on the front and a 37 (+2) on the back; Chong stuck with the rest of the squad, as she had a tougher front side (38, +2) compared to the back (36, E).
USC returns to action starting at 10:12 a.m. tomorrow at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
