PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – USC women’s golf claimed its fourth team title of the season, winning the Therese Hession Regional Challenge by five strokes at nine-under par (843) on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
The Trojans posted three top-10 performances, as senior Xin (Cindy) Kou led the charge at five-under par for the tournament, as she was third in the field. USC’s other top performances came from freshman Jasmine Koo (tied for fourth) and junior Catherine Park (tied for eighth).
USC has now won four of the five tournaments it has played in this year. The Trojans lead the NCAA in tournament wins this season.
Kou posted her best finish of the year and her best 54-hole finish since she was third in the ANNIKA Invitational her first year (2021-22). The senior was five-under par overall, carding a 70 (-1) on the final day. She bogeyed one hole on the day, bringing her total to just three bogeys and eight birdies in the opening competition.
Koo was the runner-up on the squad as she finished tied for fourth at two-under par. The freshman entered today in first place but struggled to find her footing in the back half of the course, as she posted a 40 (+4) and paired that with a 36 (+1) on the front to make her five-over par for the day. This is the freshman’s fourth top-10 finish this season.
Park picked up her fourth top-10 finish of the season and the 15th of her career, putting her tied for 10th in program history. The junior was even-par for the tournament and one-over par today, as she used three birdies on the last four holes to keep her in the top 10.
Freshman Kylie Chong had her best round of the season, as she posted a 71 (-1) to move her to two-over par. Chong not only had her best round but also her best finish, as this is her second top 25 result, as she tied for 15th.
Sophomore Bailey Shoemaker rounded out the lineup as she finished five-over par and tied for 27th in the field.
USC returns to action with the Alice and John Wallace Classic on Saturday, Feb. 15, through Monday, Feb. 17 at the Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
