Cougars Open Spring in Hawaii at John Burns Intercollegiate


PULLMAN, Wash. (Feb. 12, 2025) – The Washington State men’s golf team begins its 2025 spring season by heading to Lihue, Kauai for the John Burns Intercollegiate, Feb. 13-15, hosted by the University of Hawai’i. The event marks the first of six spring tournaments for the Cougars in 2025.
 
The Course and Tournament Format
The 2025 John Burns Intercollegiate will be held at the Ocean Course at Hokuala. The course will play as a par-70 at 7,098 yards.
 
Teams will play 18 holes each day in a shotgun start, beginning Thursday at 11 a.m. PT.

In addition to Washington State, other teams competing include host Hawaii, BYU (#21), California (#58), Fresno State, Grand Canyon (#55), Illinois (#10), Long Beach State (#39), Missouri, New Mexico (#63), Saint Mary’s (#71), San Diego State (#23), Santa Clara (#68), Texas A&M (#28), UNLV (#40), Utah (#16), and UTEP (#86).

Up Next
Following the John Burns Intercollegiate, the Cougars take one day to travel to La Quinta, Calif. for The Prestige, co-hosted by Stanford and UC Davis. The prestige begins Monday, Feb. 17 and will be a three-day tournament, with 18 holes each day.
 
Renner Concludes Fall Season on Torrid Pace
WSU junior Sam Renner had arguable the best fall season of any cougar golfer in program history. The Bend., Ore. native finished the five-event fall with a 69.53 scoring average over his 15 rounds. He captured back-to-back tournament titles, the Badger Invitational and Oregon State Invitational, at a combined 19-under par for those two events. In doing so, he became the first men’s Cougar golfer to win back-to-back tournament titles in program history. Renner concluded his fall season by shooting under par in each of his final nine rounds.
 
WSU Golf
Head Coach Dustin White is in his ninth season leading his alma mater. The 2024-25 Cougar squad, which returns four members from last season, looks to build of the 2024 campaign which saw WSU ends its season by capturing the title at the National Golf Invitational Championship, WSU’s first postseason tournament victory.
