CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State junior Luke Clanton and SMU junior Zachary Kingsland were named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Men’s Golfers of the Month for February.
Florida State’s Clanton turned in rounds of 73, 66, 67 to finish first overall and led the Seminoles to the team championship at the Watersound Invitational at the Shark’s Tooth Golf Course, which included six ranked teams. Clanton finished three strokes ahead of the leader, with a score of 10-under, which included two eagles over the final two rounds of play.
As the WAGR’s top golfer, he also earned his 19th point in the PGA TOUR U accelerated program and needs just one more for his PGA TOUR Card. The Hialeah, Florida, native will attempt to earn his 20th by making the cut at the Cognizant Classic at the PGA National Golf Course this weekend, February 27-March 2, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Kingsland posted a pair of top-10 individual finishes throughout the month of February, leading the Mustangs to back-to-back team wins at the Vaqueros Intercollegiate and Hal Williams Collegiate events.
At the Vaqueros Intercollegiate, Kingsland ended play at one-over par (217, +1) to finish in a tie for seventh highlighted by rounds of 2-under and 4-under over the first two days of play.
The Austin, Texas, native followed up his top-10 finish by winning the individual title with a score of 14-under 199 at the Hal Williams Collegiate from Magnolia Grove Golf Course. His 54-hole score was tied for the sixth-lowest 54-hole score at SMU. Kingsland carded three rounds in the 60s on the week shooting rounds of 66, 64, 69, and won the title by three strokes. The win was his second tournament title of the season having also won the Trinity Forest Invitational.
