TUCSON, Ariz. (March 17, 2025) –Freshman Garrett Harrison and junior Sam Renner each shot 1-under par, 71, in the first round of the 2025 Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate Monday at the par-72, 7,533-yard Tucson Country Club. The day was scheduled for 36 holes before darkness pushed the second round to be completed Tuesday morning before the final 18 holes.
After the first 18 holes, WSU sat even par as a team at 288, alone in eighth place in the 13-team field. Four of the five Cougar players had finished the second round with Renner having one hole left before play was suspended. Without the entire field completing the second round, only first-round scores are official.
Harrison opened his day strong with a 1-under, 71, through his first 18 holes. The round included three birdies and an eagle on the par-4 15th. Renner had five birdies in his opening 18 holes, overcoming a rare double-bogey on his second hole. Both players ended the round tied for 15th overall.
Senior Drayton Joseph and freshman Dylan Burcham each posted 1over, 73’s, in their first 18 holes. Joseph tallied two birdies and three bogeys while Burcham matched that as both players ended the round tied for 35th overall. Redshirt-sophomore Ben Borgida struggled in his first round, posting a 7-over, 79, and is tied for 71st.
