Sophomore Records Team’s Best Individual Finish In Over Two Years
NAPA – Sophomore Constance Fouillet had the best performance by a California women’s golfer in over two years and the Golden Bears recorded their second-best finish of the season by placing fourth at the regular season-ending Silverado Showdown on Wednesday.
Fouillet finished in a tie for second place on the individual leaderboard at 5-under par, four shots behind tournament champion Lauren Nguyen of Northwestern.
Fouillet had her best round of the event Wednesday, carding a 3-under par 69 that included an eagle on the 462-yard, par-5 hole No. 13.
Fouillet’s runner-up finish was a career-best and the highest by a Cal women’s golfer since Adora Liu and Tzy-Yi Chang also tied for second at the Causeway Invitational in 2023.
The Bears were consistent throughout the tournament, finishing each round in fourth place. They shot 3-over par on Monday, 4-over on Tuesday and 5-over on Wednesday.
“Three solid days for the team,” Cal head coach Sofie Aagaard said. “The leaderboard speaks for itself, but what it doesn’t show is the work our players put in, their commitment to strategy on this challenging course, as well as their mental discipline leading to good bounce-back holes – going from bogey to birdie more often than we have seen this spring.”
Cal’s fourth-place finish was its best since placing second at the Molly Collegiate Invitational in Seaside on Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
The Bears finished ahead of No. 3 Oregon and No. 16 Arizona. No. 10 Northwestern won the tournament at 3-under par.
Cal now sets sights on its first-ever ACC Championship, scheduled for April 16-19 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
