Filip Jakubcik Leads The Western Intercollegiate After Day One


With round one in the books, defending champion Filip Jakubcik picks up right where he left off in first place at 5-under par. The Wildcats as a whole, sit in a three way tie for 2nd at 5-under par alongside Nihon and Stanford. San Diego State leads the pack at 12-under par. 

Jakubcik was dialed in today with a 65 while unfortunately having a double bogey which makes the 65 even more impressive. He made his mark on the par fives playing them 4-under par which is tied for the best scoring average amongst the field. Zach Pollo is tied for 10th at 2-under par. He had eight birdies in his round and leads the field in birdies. 

Tianyi Xiong goes 35 and 35 to shoot even par in round one. He had three birdies and an eagle in today’s round. Matej Baca and Griffin Rhoads both card 71s to be tied for 34th. Each of them both had two birdies and three bogeys. Johnny Walker finished with a 72 and tied for 43rd.

Arizona leads all teams in both par four and par five scoring averages. They played the par fours 4-over par and the par fives 14-under par. Additionally, they lead with two eagles made after Jakubcik and Xiong both made one.

Tomorrow begins at 9:00 am MST for the Wildcats. Golf Channel will again be streaming live coverage starting at 4:00 pm MST.
