Cougars Conclude First Day at WCC Men’s Golf Championships


FAIRFIELD, Calif. (April 25, 2025) – Freshman Dylan Burcham shot a 3-under, 69, and junior Sam Renner shot a two-under, 70, to lead Washington State Men’s Golf in the second round of the 2025 West Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championships, Friday at the 6,570-yard, pqr-72 Green Valley Country Club.
 
As a team, the Cougars are 5-over, 581, and in 10th place following Friday’s 36 holes. Pepperdine (-30) leads after Day 1 by seven strokes of Loyola Marymount and eight over Santa Clara.
 
After firing an even-par 70 in his 18 holes Friday, Renner came back in the afternoon with six birdies in his round. Starting on the back side, he birdied 10 before a triple at 11 put him two-over through two. He proceeded to go 4-under the rest of the way, including a bogey-free 4-under on the front 9. Renner sits at 2-under, 142, and is tied for 21st overall.
 
Burcham shot a 3-over, 69, Friday afternoon, four shots better than his morning round to finish his first 36 holes at 1-under, 143. Burcham’s round featured seven birdies against four bogeys to place him in a tie for 23rd entering Saturday’s final round. Redshirt-sophomore Ben Borgida and freshman Harrison each finished Friday’s play at 4-over, 148, tied for 42nd. Borgida opened his championship with a 1-over, 73, a round that featured four birdies on the front before finishing at 1-over. He posted a 3-over, 75, in his second 18 holes. Harrison began his day with an eagle on the par-5, first, before finishing the found at 3-over, 75. Harrison carded six birdies on his afternoon round en route to a 1-over, 73.

Senior Franklin Lydra posted a 6-over, 78, in the morning round, a round that was highlighted by birdies on holes 9 and 15. In the afternoon round, Tate Bruggeman was substituted into the lineup for Lydra. The Cougar freshman shot a 5-over, 77, also with two birdies.

 

Play resumes at the West Coast Conference Championships Saturday morning, with the Cougars teeing off at 7:30 a.m.
