Li Pacing Illini after First Round at NCAA Columbus Regional

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fighting Illini women’s golf ended the first round of the NCAA Columbus Regional tied for sixth at 1-over (289), today at The Ohio State University Golf Course.

The Orange and Blue will enter tomorrow’s second round just two strokes away from breaking into the top five on the team leaderboard.

Yurang Li posted the lowest round by an Illinois golfer today with a 3-under 69 and ended the day tied for fourth, three strokes off of the individual lead. After bogeying the first hole of her tournament, Li went bogey-free the rest of the way on the front nine, rolling home three-straight birdies on Nos. 7-9. She picked up three more birdies on the back to give her six for the round, second-most among the field.

Lexanne Halama and Anna Ritter are tied for 28th after the duo each posted a 1-over 73. Halama shot a 37 on the front before firing a 36 on the back, thanks to four-straight birdies on Nos. 14-17. Ritter recorded a front nine score of 35 before a 38 on the back, collecting a total of four birdies during her round.

Brielle Mapanao is tied for 35th after a 74, ending her round with 15-straight holes of par or better, and Victoria Zheng is tied for 55th after her opening round of 77 (+5).

Hosts Ohio State hold the team lead at 9-under (279) and the Buckeyes’ Nellie Ong leads individually at 6-under (66).

The Fighting Illini will be back in action tomorrow morning, teeing off on No. 1, starting at 7:55 a.m. CT.
