Golfweek Names Ford National Player Of The Year

David Ford is Golfweek’s National Player of the Year, adding to the North Carolina senior’s haul of post-season awards, which include the 2025 Fred Haskins and Jack Nicklaus Player-of-the-Year Awards.

The Peachtree Corners, Ga., native is the first Tar Heel to win Golfweek’s National Player of the Year Award, which has been presented to the top collegiate golfer beginning in 1999.

This season, Ford set the UNC single-season scoring record at 68.78 strokes per round, which also broke the ACC record and was the fourth lowest in NCAA history.

He became the first Tar Heel to win three consecutive tournaments, which equaled the second-longest streak in ACC history, and set the single-season UNC record with five wins.

Past winners of Golfweek’s National Player of the Year Award include Northwestern’s Luke Donald, Oklahoma State’s Rickie Fowler and Viktor Hovland, UCLA’s Patrick Cantlay, Alabama’s Justin Thomas, Arizona State’s Jon Rahm, Oregon’s Wyndham Clark and Cal’s Collin Morikawa. Auburn’s Jackson Koivun was the winner in 2024.
