The 125th U.S. Open tees off on Thursday, June 12 and runs through Sunday June 15.
Simpson, who is currently WAGR No. 31, qualified for the event after shooting 8-under at Bent Tree Country Club’s sectional qualifier. He is one of 15 select amateurs in the field at Oakmont this week.
The Knoxville native is coming a 2024-25 season in which he earned All-America Honorable Mention Honors by both Golfweek and PING and was UT’s highest finisher in six of its 12 tournaments this season while also posting four top-10 finishes.
Additionally, Simpson posted a career-high 24 rounds of par or lower this season, which marks the third-most in a single season in program history.
