CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois head coach Renee Slone announced today the addition of UC Riverside transfer Sofia Vargas to the 2025-26 roster.

“We are excited to welcome Sofia to the Illinois women’s golf family,” Slone said. “Her passion for continued growth and improvement, and for the University of Illinois, is invigorating. Our training facilities will be a terrific match for her work ethic. She brings incredible energy and optimism to all that she does and will be a terrific addition to our team dynamic.”

“With a collegiate win already under her belt, we are looking forward to building on this success.”

Vargas posted a 74.30 scoring average over 26 rounds for the Highlanders in her debut campaign, where she won individual medalist honors at the Wolverine Invitational, her first-ever collegiate event. Finishing with a 54-hole score of 206 (-10), she fired a 65 (-7) in the second round of the tournament, which matched the program record for lowest round.

The Riverside, Calif., native, also recorded back-to-back tied for 15th finishes at the Grand Canyon Invitational and the SUU Pizza Hut Invitational.
