LOUISVILLE, Ky – Three University of Louisville men’s golfers are scheduled to compete at the 125th United States Amateur at the Olympic Club Lake Course in San Francisco, Calif., on Aug. 11-17.
Warren Thomis, Cooper Claycomb and Andrew Tan each qualified for the event that features 312 players from 48 states and 30 countries.
Thomis qualified for the U.S. Amateur after a victory at the Kentucky Amateur Championship in June. He closed out the championship with an impressive final scorecard of 67-69-70–206, capturing the title by three strokes. A rising sophomore, Thomis competed in three events during his freshman season for the Cardinals.
One of the top players for the Cardinals last season, Claycomb earned his spot at the U.S. Amateur with a third-place finish at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in the U.S. Amateur Final Qualifier. He carded a 5-under (67) to send him to his second consecutive U.S. Amateur.
Last season, Claycomb finished the season with the third best stroke average with a 72.51, carding his personal best and was a PING All-Region selection.
Tan also qualified for the U.S. Amateur for his second consecutive year after he tied for seventh finish in the U.S. Amateur Final Qualifier. He carded a 68 (-4) at Braeburn Country Club to grab one of 12 qualifying spots.
