PULLMAN, Wash. (Sept. 9, 2025) – The Washington State Cougars caught fire in Round 2 en route to a 16-under, 268, to finish the first two rounds in first place at the 2025 Palouse Collegiate Tuesday, played at the par-71, 7,302-yard Palouse Ridge Golf Club. The Cougars finished the day at 27-under, 541, five strokes ahead of Santa Clara and six shots clear of third-place Pacific.
After carding an 11-under, 273, to open the day, WSU saw all five players shoot under par in the second round to post 268 and tie for the fourth-lowest single-round score in program history.
Sophomore Dylan Burcham led the way for the Cougars as he fired back-to-back rounds of 5-under, 66, and sits one shot behind leader Calder Overfelt from Santa Clara. Burcham’s day consisted of 12 birdies against just two bogeys as he shot his low round as a Cougar, eclipsing the 67 he fired twice last season. Burcham and teammate Ben Mulder share the tournament lead with 12 birdies each through 36 holes.
Mulder, a junior transfer from Northwest Nazarene, carded a 36-hole score of six under, 136. After opening the day with an even-par, 71, first-round, Mulder caught fire on the second 18, finishing with seven birdies on the round. In his first event as a Cougar, Mulders sits alone in ninth heading into Wednesday’s final round.
Redshirt-junior Ben Borgida posted rounds of 67-70 and sits tied for 10th at 5-under, 137, following 36 holes. Borgida began the day with a 4-under 67, which included five birdies against one bogey, before finishing the afternoon with a 1-under, 70, a round that included 15 pars and two birdies.
After an opening-round of 1-under, 71, senior Sam Renner found his groove on the back nine of Round 2. Entering hole No. 13, Renner sat at 1-over for his round before an onslaught of birdies, including five of the next six holes, pushed him to four-under for the round and five-under for the day. He is tied with Borgida at 5-under, 137, and in 10th place.
Sophomore Garrett Harrison posted back-to-back round of 1-under, 70, to conclude his first 36 holes at 2-under, 140, tied for 30th. Harrison struggled early with bogeys on four of his first six holes. Three-straight birdies to end his front nine got him on track, as he went 2-under on the back nine to finish the first 18 holes at 1-under. He continued his solid play in Round 2, posting two…
