Women's Golf Hosts 12th Annual Unger-DeBlasio Cup


PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women’s golf hosted 104 participants at its 12th Annual Unger-DeBlasio Cup on Friday, September 12 at the Rutgers University Golf Course.
 
In attendance and participating in the event were several of the program’s alumnae as well as Rutgers Athletics and Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Theresa Grentz. Athletics Director Keli Zinn also addressed participants before the outing began.

The program presented Grace Lu with the Maura Waters Ballard Scoring Champion Award for her scoring average of 74.24. Lu was one of seven Scarlet Knights recognized as WGCA All-American Scholars along with Judy Amano, Emily James, Krystal Li, Lorena Rossettin, Lucrezia Rossettin and Joline TruongLorena Rossettin, Lucrezia Rossettin, James and Li were also honored as Big Ten Distinguished Scholars.

 

Marking 48 years of Rutgers women’s golf, the Unger-DeBlasio Cup honors two of the program’s former mentors Jan Unger and Art DeBlasio. Women’s golf became an intercollegiate sport at Rutgers in 1977 and was led by Unger who spent 17 years as head coach.

 

The Don and Penny Pray Service Award was given to Christina Paulsen – a 2016 graduate and Rutgers women’s golf letterwinner – for her work with the NJ Golf Foundation, the charitable arm of the NJ PGA. Paulsen is responsible for the Heroes Tour, a competitive golf circuit for first responders and veterans in New Jersey, and also runs clinics and programming for veterans across the state.
