Kaitlyn Helm Leads Badger Invitational after Opening Round


MADISON, Wisc. (September 14, 2025) – Washington State Women’s Golf freshman Kaitlyn Helm fired an opening-round 66 to lead the Badger Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin Sunday.
 
Helm tallied seven birdies and just one bogey while tying the WSU freshman single-round record and tied for the second-best single-round by any Coug in program history. Junior Alice Johannson posted a school-record 65 during last year’s Ptarmigan Ram Classic at Colorado State. Helm posted a front-nine 32 and closed her day with a back-nine 34 to lead the field by two strokes.
 
Senior Hannah Harrison joins Helm in the Top-10 after carding an opening-round even-par 72 to sit tied for ninth while sophomore Grace Rubelsky posted a two-over 74 to sit tied for 25th.
 
The Cougars finished Sunday’s opening-round tied for third with Western Kentucky at even par, two strokes behind co-leaders Illinois and Delaware at two-under.
 
The Course and Tournament Format
The tournament is held at the University Ridge Golf Course.
 
The course plays as a par-72 at 6,297 yards.

Teams will play 18 holes Monday and Tuesday beginning at 7 a.m. (PT).

In addition to Washington State and hosts Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Denver, Delaware, Sam Houston, St. Thomas, South Dakota State, Bradley, Colorado State, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan and Wisconsin-Green Bay make up the 14-team field.

Last Time Out

Washington State Women’s Golf closed out play at the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico last week. Junior Alice Johansson paced the Cougs tying for 11th at three-over after posting a final-round 74 while sophomore Agnes Brink closed her tournament at nine-over. Senior Hannah Harrison and freshman Kaitlyn Helm each wrapped up WSU’s opening week with final rounds of 75. Johansson and Helm each tallied three birdies during Tuesday’s final round while Harrison posted an even-par 36 on the back nine. WSU finished in tenth out of 15 teams, ahead of Fresno State and UNLV, and just behind host New Mexico.
