Huskers Host Git-R-Done Invitational at Firethorn – University of Nebraska

The Nebraska men’s golf team completes a stretch of four straight tournaments to open the fall by playing host to the Git-R-Done Invitational at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln (Sept. 22-23).

The two-day, 54-hole event gets underway with tee times off No. 1 and No. 10 at 8 a.m. (CT) on Monday, Sept. 22 to start 36 holes of action on the first day. The tournament concludes with tee times again off 1 and 10 at 8 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday, Sept. 23, for the final 18 holes.

Nebraska hosts an 11-team field that includes Creighton, Omaha, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas City, Missouri State, South Dakota State, St. Thomas (Minn.), Wichita State and the defending champions from Sam Houston.

The Huskers are coming off a fourth-place finish in a strong 18-team field at the Bearcat Invitational in Cincinnati (Sept. 15-16). Sophomore Jackson Benge (Omaha, Neb.) continued his solid start to the season with his third straight top-25 finish.

Benge, who tied for 14th individually with a 212 (-1), matched fellow sophomore Brodie Cunningham (Glasgow, Scotland), who also totaled 212 (-1) with identical rounds of 69, 70 and 73 on the par-71, 7,279-yard layout at the Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati.

Junior Rudy Sautron added his first top-25 finish of the season by tying for 23rd at 213 (E), including a team-best 68 (-3) in the final round.

Freshman Caden Mickelson rounded out Nebraska’s scorers at the event with three consecutive rounds of 72 (+1) to tie for 40th at 216 (+3) in a 94-player field.

Nebraska also received solid individual performances at the Bluejay Invitational at Shadow Ridge Country Club in Omaha (Sept. 15-16), as Evan McDermott and Bryson Oots tied for fifth at 211 (-5). James Ackerman (214) and Thomas Bryson (215) also finished below par in their first competitions of the season.
