OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — TK Chantananuwat’s top-25 finish highlighted the final day of competition as the Stanford men’s golf wrapped up its time at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational on Sunday. Stanford ended the three-day tournament in 11th place of 15 total teams, shooting 17-over par but only four shots from a top-10 team finish.
Chantananuwat, who entered the day inside the top-20 following two rounds of competition, had a stellar first nine holes after teeing off from hole 10. His first birdie of the day came on only his second hole on a par-four hole 11 before slotting home an eagle on the par-five hole 15, hitting the turn at 2-under. However, the front nine at Olympia Fields was unkind on Sunday as Chantananuwat suffered four bogeys after the turn to finish the day at 2-over. Chantananuwat finished in a tie for 24th overall at 2-over for the tournament.
Sitting joint in a tie for 42nd, Jay Leng and Nathan Wang had opposite cards to finish the tournament at 7-over. Wang, who went even through the back nine and 1-under through the front, finished Sunday’s final round at 1-under while Leng got hung up on the front nine, turning in a 4-over, 74 for the day as both Cardinal earned the top-50 finish to open the season.
Freshman Edan Cui finished his inaugural tournament as a Cardinal with a top-50 placement, ending the tournament at 8-over after leading Stanford following the first round. Cui hit trouble on the back nine to begin the day, hitting the turn at 5-over before bouncing back on the front nine, shooting 2-over before ending the day at 7-over.
Elsewhere, Dean Greyserman had a respectable final round, firing off consecutive birdies on two of his first three holes of the day to hit the turn at 1-under. Though Greyserman had some setbacks on holes three and nine, the senior turned in a 1-over card for the final round, ending the tournament at 13-over and tied for 66th.
Stanford returns to action this week, hitting the links for another rendition of The Big Match on Thursday, September 25 at Menlo Park Country Club.
