CLEMSON, S.C. — Lucas Augustsson had rounds of 64 and 67 on Monday to lead Clemson to a third-place finish out of 15 teams at the first Bryan Brothers Collegiate at Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, SC.
LSU won the tournament with a 35-under-par score of 817, while Charlotte finished second at 32-under-par 820. The Tigers were third at 28-under-par 824, eight shots ahead host school South Carolina. The 28-under-par tied for the 11th best team score vs. par in Clemson history and the 824 total score was the ninth best in Clemson history.
Clemson shot 22-under-par on Monday thanks to team rounds of 274 and 272. All five players in the team lineup had at least one round in the 60s over the three rounds, and three had two rounds in the 60s. Senior Thomas Higgins was the only Tiger with three under-par rounds. Three Tigers had top 10 finishes in the 84-player field and four finished in the top 25.
With the third-place finish Clemson now has a 29-9-2 record against the field through three tournaments this year.
“This was a solid tournament for us,” said Clemson Head Coach Jordan Byrd, who grew up in Columbia, SC. “We are seeing some low scores and some bogey-free rounds. We made another good step this week. Lucas Augustsson had a great week after a slow start in the first round, but battled back to get a top 10. Colin Salema had a career best 66 and that was terrific in the second round after he has gone through some swing changes.”
Augustsson’s day started with a career best seven-under-par 64 in the morning round, a round that included eight birdies and just one bogey. He was bogey free for his last 15 holes in that round, then went bogey free for his first 15 holes in the afternoon round, giving him 30 consecutive bogey free holes. most by a Tiger golfer since Jacob Bridgeman had a 43-hole streak in the spring of 2022.
Augustsson’s 30-hole bogey free run included an eagle two on the par four third hole when he drove his tee shot within 126 yards of the hole, then made his second shot with a 54-degree wedge. The transfer from East Carolina finished with a score of seven-under par 206 for the tournament to finish tied for seventh. He had a team best 16 birdies and an eagle for the tournament.
Oscar Bredkjaer also finished seventh for the tournament with a 206 total. The University of San Francisco transfer had rounds of 66-71-69 on the par 71 course that measured 6,827 yards. The…
