Illini in Seventh After Day One at Windy City Collegiate Classic


Golf, Ill. – Illinois women’s golf finished the first day of the Windy City Collegiate Classic in seventh after carding a team total of 576 (E) at the Glen View Club.

The team posted a first-round score of 289 (+1) and second-round reading of 287 (-1). Through two rounds, the Illini lead the tournament in pars with 127. They also finished the day in the top 4 in both par threes and par fives.

Brielle Mapanao led the way with her first under-par rounds of the season with back-to-back rounds of 71(-1). Mapanao has now led the Illini in four rounds this season. She heads into the final day tied for 12th. 

Victoria Zheng followed closely behind with a 72 (E) first round and a 71 (-1) second. After two rounds, Zheng is tied for the lead in pars and has the fewest bogeys for the tournament. Zheng is tied for 16th heading into the final day, only a stroke behind her teammate. 

Alexis Myers continues her strong play with back-to-back rounds of 72 (E) placing her tied for 20th. 

Anna Ritter shot a first-round 74 (+2) and a second-round 73 (+1). She is tied for 36th after the first day. 

Erica Lee is tied for 51st with a first round of 76 (+4) and a second round of 75 (+3). 

The Fighting Illini will return tomorrow with the third, and final round, featuring a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT.
