Badgers finish eighth at Bryson Invitational


CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Wisconsin men’s golf team finished eighth, shooting -8 at the Bryson Invitational in Charleston, S.C. on Wednesday. 

The Badgers earned 55 birdies on the week, the fifth most in the field. 

True freshman Vijay Kumar led the Badgers in his second consecutive start. He finished 17th at -4 after a scintillating first 36-holes. The Nebraska native fired a 69 (-3) Monday, then a career-low 68 (-4) Tuesday to propel himself into the top-20. 

Senior Spencer Turtz and sophomore William Harned tied for 28th at -1. Turtz posted an opening-round 68 to propel up the leader board, and rounded out his event with a 73 (+1) on Wednesday. Harned nabbed the third top-30 finish of his young career, coming in at -1 (71). The Nashotah native rose 18-spots up the leaderboard Wednesday thanks to a final-round 70.

Junior Charles Erlandson cracks the top-40, finishing 38th at even-par. He fired a season-low 69 (-3) on Tuesday, going bogey-free with four birdies on the back-nine. 

Senior Jacob Beckman rounded out the Badger scoring Wednesday, shooting +1. He finished 67th on the week at +6. UW UW had one Badger competing individually in James Boustead. The South African finished in 82nd at +16, tallying his tournament-low 74 (+2) on Wednesday.
