Huskers Finish Fifth in Indiana – University of Nebraska

Jackson Benge, Rudy Sautron and Caden Mickelson earned top-25 individual finishes to help the Nebraska men’s golf team to fifth place in a 15-team field at the Purdue Fall Invitational on Tuesday in West Lafayette, Ind.

Benge, a sophomore from Omaha, tied for 18th with a three-round total of 217 (+1) on the 7,465-yard layout of the Kampen-Cosler Golf Course. He settled for a 75 (+3) on Tuesday after carding back-to-back rounds of 71 on Monday.

Sautron tied for 20th at 218 (+2) after posting Nebraska’s best final round with a 71 (-1) on Tuesday. The junior from Reunion Island, France, finished one shot behind Benge and one stroke in front of teammate Caden Mickelson. The freshman from Kansas City tied for 23rd at 219 (+3), including a final-round 73 (+1).

Redshirt junior Evan McDermott rounded out Nebraska’s team score with a 73 (+1) of his own on Tuesday to tie for 37th at 223 (+7). Sophomore Brodie Cunningham matched Benge with a final-round 75, as Cunningham finished in a tie for 34th at 222 (+6).

As a team, the Huskers finished with a three-round total of 872 (+8), including a final-round 292 (+4). Nebraska finished two strokes back of fourth-place Illinois State and five shots behind third-place Oakland.

The hosts from Purdue ran away with the team title at 839 (-25), including a final-round 281. The Boilermakers finished 19 strokes in front of runner-up Butler at 858 (-6).

Anthony De Schutter from Southern Illinois took home medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 210 (-6), including a final-round 70 (-2). De Schutter held off runner-up Will Harvey at 211 (-5), while Harvey’s Purdue teammates Sam Easterbrook and Kentaro Nanayama tied for third at 212 (-4).

In addition to the Huskers who competed at the Purdue Fall Invite, sophomore James Ackerman participated in 36 holes on a par-71, 7,243-yard layout at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Course in West Lafayette. Playing in a field of 25 individuals, Ackerman tied for sixth at 146 (+4) after posting rounds of 74 (+3) and 72 (+1).

Nebraska wraps up its 2025 fall season by competing at the Steelwood Collegiate in Loxley, Ala. (Oct. 25-26).
