Nakatani Continues to Lead No. 26 Florida State Through Moon Invitational


Melbourne, Fla. – Florida State freshman Haruhi Nakatani is in a tie for 24th place in the individual standings, and the No 26 Florida State women’s golf team is in 12th place in the team standings after two rounds of the Moon Invitational at the Suntree Country Club. Nakatani totaled a score of 76 in the second round and has a two round total of 147. She begins play in the third round just two strokes out of the top-10 in the individual standings as she plays for the second top-10 finish of her first season at Florida State.

Texas A&M maintained its overall team lead and has finished under par in the first two rounds of the event. The Aggies hold a four-stroke lead over Auburn in the race for the team championship. Texas A&M and Auburn are the only two teams with under par totals through the first 36 holes of the championship. Vanessa Borovilos of Texas A&M is the individual leader with a 6 under par total of 138. Izzy Pelot of Mississippi State is in second place and just three shots behind Borovilos in the race for the individual championship.

“Today was a great learning experience for all of our girls,” said head coach Amy Bond. “The wind blew at about 25-30 today in a different direction than yesterday. We have to learn how to handle the weather on any given day. That’s what we’ll take from this day – the opportunity to learn and get better. We are thankful for another day on this course, and we are going to be better tomorrow than we were today.”

Nakatani (tied for 24) is joined by teammate Sophia Fullbrook (tied for 30th) as the two top golfers for the Seminoles.

Nakatani totaled two birdies and 10 more holes scored at par as she carded a 76 in the second round. She totaled one birdie on both sides of the course with a birdie on her second hole of the day and on her final hole of the day. Nakatani has birdied the 18th hole in both the first and second rounds of the tournament.

Fullbrook led the Seminoles in the second round with a 2 over par score of 74. She has carded consecutive scores of 74 in the first two rounds of the event for a 148 total. She has played very consistently through the first two rounds of the event with 31 of 36 holes scored at par or better. She has one birdie in each of her first two rounds.

Sophomore Layla Pedrique carded her second consecutive round of 4 over par 76. She has a two-round total of 152 and is in a tie for 62nd place in the individual standings.
