This Week in Wake Forest Women’s Athletics – Presented by Truist (March 2-8)


WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Truist, a longstanding partner of Wake Forest University who is An Official Banking Partner of Wake Forest Athletics and the Presenting Partner of Wake Forest Women’s Athletics brings Deacon Nation this weekly update from the Demon Deacons women’s programs: 

  • Women’s Basketball: 

  • Track & Field:

    • The Wake Forest track and field program recorded a stellar performance last weekend at the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston. 
    • Seren Rodgers opened competition by taking first place in the pentathlon after recording a personal-best score of 3,989 points on Friday. 

      • Rodgers is now just the second Demon Deacon to win the ACC pentathlon title, joining Anna Bush, who won back in 2021.

    • Brooke Wilson earned second-team All-ACC honors in the women’s 5000m. 
    • Casey Sullivan set a new personal-best throw to finish eighth in the women’s shot put as well, while Elizabeth Whaley logged a time of 4:36.32 to finish in seventh place in the women’s mile. Meanwhile, freshman Natalia Issler clocked a time of 2:06.01 in the women’s 800 meters, leading to an eighth place result.
    • Junior Angelina Perez also logged points for the Demon Deacons as she placed seventh in the women’s 5000m on the first day of competition.

  • Women’s Tennis: 

    • The Demon Deacons are set to host their first home ACC matches of the spring this weekend, facing Miami on Friday at 6 p.m. and Florida State on Sunday at 11 a.m. 
    • So far this season, Wake Forest has earned seven home victories. With a pair of wins over the Hurricanes and Seminoles, the Deacs would earn their most victories on home court since the 2023 season (12). 

  • Women’s Golf: 

    • Macy Pate has been named to the Spring Watch List for the ANNIKA Award, presented by Stifel. This is the first appearance on the list for the Demon Deacon. Currently ranked No. 11, junior Macy Pate has had a standout season thus far. The Winston-Salem-native grabbed her first collegiate win this past September at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup. She carded a career-low 54-hole score (202) to help the Deacs to a team title that same weekend. 
    • The ANNIKA Award is presented annually to the top Division I women’s golfer. Previous finalists from Wake Forest include Jennifer Kupcho (2017, 2019, 2019) and Rachel Kuehn (2024), however the award has yet to be won by a Demon Deacon.
