Tar Heel senior Megan Streicher shot her third consecutive round under par to lead the University of North Carolina to a tie for second place after the final 18 holes Wednesday in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at the Pearl at Kalauao in O’ahu.
Streicher shot 70-69-70 for a total of 4-under 209, which tied for third in the individual standings. It was Streicher’s 10th career top-five finish.
The 12th-ranked Tar Hels shot 3-under 281 today, the second-best team result on the final day behind only tournament champion Southern California, the No. 2-ranked team in the country.
Carolina shot 282-284-281 for a total of 5-under 847, which tied for runner-up with Arizona State. USC won with a 28-under 824. Texas State (-3) was third and Louisiana Monroe finished fifth (+27).
Three Tar Heels joined Streicher in the top 15.
Reagan Southerland (71-72-70) and Helen Yeung (73-70-70) tied for 12th at even-par 213 and Ing Iadpluem (70-73-71) was 15th at 1-over 214.
Next up for the Tar Heels is the North Carolina Challenge Cup, which they will host April 4 at UNC Finley Golf Club.
