PHOENIX, Ariz. – Sun Devil Women’s Golf opened up the 53rd edition of the PING/ASU Invitational with a top-five finish on Monday afternoon at Papago Golf Club.
Arizona State concluded the first round with a six-under par (-6/282) performance, with senior Paula Schulz-Hanssen leading the pack with a four-under (-4/68) scorecard. Schulz-Hanssen found her way to a bogey free round, leading to a top-five placement in the individual leaderboard on the day as well.
Freshman Fai Rubrong continues to impress in her debut season, carding a two-under (-2/70) scorecard on the tournament opener. Rubrong found the bottom of the cup for five birdies, including two par threes. The freshman etched her names into the top-10 of the individual leaderboards additionally.
Senior Beth Coulter, sophomore Isla McDonald-O’Brien, and freshman Johanna Axelsen rounded that up with an even-par (E/72) performance.
The Sun Devils will begin the second round of the PING/ASU Invitational at 8:40 a.m. MST, with each of the five golfers beginning their round on Hole 1 every nine minutes.
